I think the one thing that missing from these "loving" families that would make a difference is: it's alright to say they can't understand being gay but they will accept them regardless. In that way, it really shows they do love the person, even in the face of personal discomfort. You're not asking for understanding, you're asking for acceptance, regardless of understanding. Then she had a choice- accept me and my friends, or else. She made the right choice and when they voted to ban same sex marriage in Michigan, she voted against the amendment.
