Birf’ed

Its that time again. Yours truly is a year older today. I was completely blown away by all the well wishes I got via Facebook, Twitter, text, and voicemail today. The irony is I don’t feel 39. Oh sure, my body is finally beginning to show the signs of my age, [1]I found my first grey chest hair just this week but my mind still feels many years younger.

I’ve often wondered if it is because I spent most of my 20’s focused on survival or I’m just young at heart. Either way, I’m glad. While wisdom and experience has certainly mellowed me a bit, I’m still very rambunctious and free-spirited. Both qualities I love in myself and others. Unlike many (especially in the gay world), I do not fear or resent getting older. I can see the allure of youth and being young, but I think its way overrated.

Apple guy stayed thru my birthday, which I was very grateful. He got some bad news this week so has been stressed. The rain kept us indoors for most of the day. We finally mad it out for some lite shopping and sushi for dinner. I’m sad he is leaving back to Dallas tomorrow. Its been so nice having him curled up next to me every night for the past month. The upside is he is coming back soon. Even better, the next time is when he moves here. So there is a little silver lining to be found.

  1. Happy birthday again! Being 10.5 years older than you I kinda resigned to getting older whether I liked it or not a few years ago. Indeed, I still grimace when I think how old I'll be in July but it's more hearing it rather than feeling it. (just ignore the creaking joints! ::G::) As the saying goes – It beats the alternative.

  2. About the grey chest hair, take it from me "Just For Men Beards and Mustaches" once every six weeks or so works wonders. I am not a vain person (not much anyway) but I cannoy tolerate grey chest hair on myself.

  3. Happy Birthday young man!

Quit the "I'm so old shit". As the saying goes, I still have shoes older than you.

    You're still a hottie…

  5. Moby, a philosophical addition to my last comment…

I'm glad you put "wisdom" in front of "experience" in your blog. One of my teachers asked me if I'd rather be "experienced" or "wise"…

The teacher went on to explain, "A person gains 'experience' by burning his hand on the stove… A person with 'wisdom' learns by watching the 'experienced' person burn his hand on the stove."

Furthermore, as you talked about your dad dealing with you being gay, remember: "Maturity(age) may imply 'experience' but it doesn't always imply wisdom". I've seen many adults who have 'experienced' much, but learned (wisdom) very little in the process.

  6. Happy Birthday, Moby. And congratulations on your first grey chest hair…which I find rather sexy. Not to worry, there will be more to come. Birthdays, that is. I'm not that mean, lol.

  7. Happy Birthday. I don't track b-days for others the way I used to or should.

Getting older really isn't a bad thing….and it's not like you can fight it off, just some of the effects of it and for only a period of time. So don't fret too much. I too have TWO grey chest hairs. But considering how many hairs I have there, it's a very very small %.

Roll w/it. Embrace it. Make 39 your bitch.

  8. Aww, damnit! I missed your birfday! Well HAPPY BIRFDAY TO YA!

BTW– enjoy 39. Because each day you are stepping closer to 40. Which equals 'dead' in gay years.

    I'm just sayin'.
