Link?

I finally got the Blogroll added back to the blog. My schedule is pulling more of my free time lately so I got tired of tinkering w/the code. It loads a static page for now. That my change in the future.

As for linking, I cleaned up the blogroll a bit. Some blogs are gone, a few new ones have been added. A few people have asked what it takes to get on my blogroll. Well, it varies. Content is a biggy of course. However, there are a few things that will get you there faster.

  • 1) Blogs that have as much to do with the person as their hobbies are big on my list. I like reading about the person as much as what they think.
  • 2) Posting a self-portrait or pics of yourself gives me a sense of connection. I detest faceless chats and blogs where I can see the person tend to perk my interest.
  • 3) Be yourself. Be willing to put your not-so-best foot forward. It shows your humanity.

These are just a small indication of how I view blogs. There are always exceptions. Most of my blogroll I found thru comments left here or friends blogs. I tend to bookmark a blog and read it for a while before I add it to my list. That is pretty much my thought process on it. *g*

Anyway, I think I’m done tinkering for a while. (yeah right.)

Missing Pieces

You may have noticed my blogroll is missing. Never fear, I’m bringing it back. I decided I didn’t like the top banner so I’m tinkering w/some other options. I’ve already added the categories and archives back (see left column). I like things on the home page to be clean and simple.

I like the dropdown menu idea however, I want it to look more like the existing column links. Not being java friendly, I’m experimenting with some code. A few of you already noticed some unexpected glitches. [1]Can you say “oops”? I know, I know, it if ain’t broke don’t fix it. Well I can’t help it. It’s what I do.

Load Times

If you’ve been experiencing trouble with the blog loading, it should be fixed now. The IM notifiers were the culprit. I’ve known about it for awhile but it seems to be getting worse as more and more folks are reporting delays in load time.

Normally, I load scripts in the footer section of my page so the rest of the page will load first. However, this particular plugin loads from the server instead of a script. Hence, the delay. I removed it and all seems to be well again.

Apologies.

Blog – Error

I just noticed the subscribe plug-in I’m using is sending out updates for old posts when I add new categories. Sorry for all the mass emails. I’ve disabled it for now. Once I finish categorizing all the posts, I’ll turn it back on.

Ooops! II

I totally fucked up tonight and corrupted my categories. Actually, I corrupted the entire blog but managed to fix it. However, I have to start over an reassign categories to all my posts! What a fraking nightmare.

If anyone knows of a plugin that allows you to batch add categories please let me know.

Blogger Collision

I got to meet Mike from One 3y3 Open this weekend. He is a very nice and charming man. He was a little tipsy and acting all embarrassed. I couldn’t have cared less. We had some good conversation and laughed a lot. We bar hopped all over the castro before landing at 440 Castro. [1]aka Daddies He really liked that one.

I had a very nice time hanging out w/him and chatting about everything under the sun. I was immediately struck by his very soft lips. He really needs to post more pics of himself on the blog. [2]You listening? LOL He is here for work and being the opposite of my schedule I may not get to hang out w/him. However, even a brief meeting is better than none at all. I can add one more blogger to my list of “met in person”. Now if I could just get Large Tony on an airplane…

Random Questions

I’ve gotten a slew of random questions this past week and I figured I’d share here my answers.

1) What happened to “Mr. I-know-who-you-are”?

I don’t know. He never responded to my request for a valid IP address. All talk and no action. NEXT!

2) Are the hidden posts on your blog stories or real life occurrences?

I’ve answered that before however, they are all true. Sometimes I change the names to protect the guilty though. heehee.

3) When did you know you were gay?

I knew as early as 5 that I was somehow different however, a mind that young has no frame of reference for human sexuality. I began questioning when I was 10 and then at age 12 I knew something was very different about me. It wasn’t until just after my 14th birthday I began to really admit to myself I was ‘gay’.

4) I registered as a user but I still can’t see your hidden posts.

Probably because you didn’t reply to my follow-up request to introduce yourself. Email me directly.

5) You never talk about the Bare Chest charity anymore.

I no longer volunteer for them. Call it “creative differences”.

6) I noticed your twitter updates are still functioning. Mine has stopped, help!

I switched to a javascript loader via the RSS feed. The WordPress widget no longer works after one of Twitters’s recent upgrades. Email me and I’ll send you the code to load.

7) I live in San Francisco. I have never seen you out at the bars. Where do you go out?

Uh, I don’t do the bars much unless I have friends in town. I used to go out alot when I worked for several local charities however, my priorities have shifted.

8) Have you ever met Chad Fox?

Yes, and he is a filthy scoundrel and I love him to death.

9) How did you know I worked for [removed for privacy]? Is it that easy to discover?

Uh, because I am very nosy. I monitor all incoming/outgoing traffic on my blog/domain. You visit me weekly from your work address/IP. It is not a filtered or proxy IP so it was an easy guess. And yes, it is.

10) Why are you such a slut? (from a good friend mind you after reading my last entry)

Because I can be bitch. Jealousy is so not your color! 😛

Tinker3

Ok, I finally found the glitch w/this plug-in. I’ve known about it for awhile but could never get it to work. The author’s site is not in English so no help there. I finally figured it out! It was so simple. The author inadvertently added an extra space to the tag that the plug-in looked for so it failed. Those pesky typos!

Anyway, if you notice on the left side of the ole blog here, I’ve added a new “Plugins I Use” page which lists out each and every active plug-in on my blog.

A very nifty feature when you discover a WordPress function you’d like to emulate. I get swarms of emails asking about my spam filters all the way down to how I make the auto-links on blogger names (even in the comments). Now you know.
