Tech or Tired?

It’s no secret I’m a tech geek. I love all things techy. Wired Magazine is one of my favorite reads online and off. Well, up until today. I’m sure I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill here however, there comes a point when one has to say “no more”. I was reading Wired online today and this article really irked me and I said as much. Mainly, as the author recommends lying to increase your blog popularity. And I’m sure people do it all the time. However, a little white lie today, a big white lie tomorrow. History shows us, once we open a door to a certain behavior in isolated incidents, it often becomes acceptable to use the same behavior in any setting. If you doubt it, just look at our current leader’s challenges to long-standing constitutional policies. An even better example would be sp*mmers who use any tactic to get you. It’s ok, if it works?

Anyway, I’m getting off the point. If you feel you need to lie to get people to link to your blog, perhaps it’s time to turn off the computer, go out in the real world and make real connections.

Chatter Box

I discovered a very nifty new widget that allows me to load a chat box connected directly to my aim/yahoo screennames. The best part is you don’t have to be an aim/yahoo user to use it.

The chat link on the left opens up a chat box. As long as I’m logged in, you can chat w/me.

Cool huh?

Technophile

If you know me, you know I’m a tech geek. I love all things techey. I can lose myself for hours in electronics/computer stores.

One of my favorite reads is scifi.com’s tech blog. It’s pretty cool. They give regular updates of all things tech. Surprisingly, it’s a good mix. Not just corporate crap being pushed by the parent company.

Trip II

I just booked my flight for Fort Lauderdale in October.  Cross your fingers that another hurricane doesn’t tear them a new asshole this year.  I didn’t get to go last year and I’m still smarting from it.

I got bumped from my ride along this morning. Such is life.  I went home and crawled my butt right back in bed.  I didn’t get many errands done over the weekend so now that I’m up and about again, I might as well be productive.

Drop pants off to be hemmed .  .  . check

Pick up meds for nose .  .  .  check

Laundry  .  .  .  You are joking right?

Check the mail  .  .  .  check

Wash the bike  .  .  .  not done

Start new blog  .  .  .  check
Ok, what did I forget?  I know I’m forgetting something!

In other news, I’m thinking I might buy myself a new laptop for xmas this year.  The Dell is still chugging along however, it’s kinda heavy.  I know I’m speaking blasphemy so any MAC fanatics turn your head.  I might get the 17″ powerbook and just run windows on it. hehehe.  Now that MAC has gone all Intel on us, it’s a not a far stretch.  I’ve always liked the aesthetics of Mac’s, I just hate the operating system.

Anyway, time to shave the head and get ready for work.

Frappr

I made the jump to frappr. I’m never one to jump onboard just because “everyone’s using it” mentality so I tinkered w/it myself for a while and I like it. Feel free to add your pics or location but it’s not a requirement. I like it because it encourages communication. I mean that is the point of social networking after all right?

Don’t let the technology scare ya, it’s easy. If you are a frappr member just click to add yourself. If not, click add me and it will let you sign up as you add yourself. You can add your location as an overlay and/or you can just add an image (to the left) to show you visit often.

*disclaimer* You do need shockwave enabled thru your browser for it to work

Del.icio.us

I would say “geek alert” however, I’d like some feedback on this particular post.

I’ve been hearing about the social bookmarking site del.icio.us for some time now. I decided to check it out today. Not bad. It’s sort of like friendster, tribe, and myspace except you share bookmarks instead of self-profiles. Any computer, phone, pda, etc w/net access I can log in and see my bookmarks. Of course, this ties in nicely w/my desire to make the web my portal of online activities.

With del.icio.us I have the choice of listing my tags or my actual bookmarks. I’m just starting so my tag list is minimal at best. I’ve also only added a few bookmarks for now. My question is how many people prefer seeing a list of my tags or the actual bookmarks?

Muggy II / Drivel

I made it to the gym but my energy tanked right away so only got a half-ass workout in. My mood is as muggy as the weather today. I think I’m just worn out from my exertions as of late. Busy busy busy. Finding out my ride along for tomorrow got cancelled again didn’t help.

A buddy from work called me to see if I would co-sign a loan for him. That would be a big negative! One, I’m still recovering from my own debts incurred during the last relationship. Two, said friend tends to invite a large amount of drama into his life. Be it immaturity or blind stupidity, either way not my problem. Three, I have a distinct feeling there is more to the story than I’m hearing. *I may have been born at night but it wasn’t last night.*

Notice the Moby-ism on the left. Not sure who coined the phrase but I’ve taken it to heart throughout my life and it serves me well.

My new phone/pda hasn’t come yet. I’m anxious as all hell for it to show up. I’ve been so busy the Tivo is almost full. Maybe tonight I can catch up while I’m being tortured by domestic chores from hell! (I must have been rich in my previous life because I detest house work!) I’ll be so glad when I when the lotto so I can hire a houseboy. *mental note – play lotto*

I got a tickle out of the overwhelming response to my “dying to now” question. hehehe. May have to do that one again. I have tons of those little buggers floating around in my head.

OH! I almost forgot, I’m planning a little surprise for the blog. However, a new piece of hardware is required. It hasn’t shown up yet either. I got an email from Amazon saying it was delayed. Bumm-diddly.

Ok, I’m off to bend eager minds to my will.

Tech Alert.

*tech post – you can skip it if you don’t like technical rants*

In unrelated drama, I finally broke down and bought a new phone/pda. My Ipaq 6315 has had some heavy wear n tear and is falling apart. I’m a tad ashamed of myself because it’s only a year old. I’m hard on my toys, what can I say. This particular model has been plagued w/hardware issues so I’m glad to be rid of it soon. The latest drama is the external speaker has started only working intermittently. So when it rings, I don’t always hear it. @#$%! grumble grumble grumble.

And being the tech geek I am, I can’t settle for just any old phone. Oh no, not even close. I’ve been chopping at the bit waiting for this one to be released in the US.

The New One!

It just 7 short days, I’ll have this baby in my hands. Besides having a faster chip, this one is loaded w/the new Windows Mobile 5 platform. Which is supposed to be much more robust.

One lesson learned from my previous model, is never buy one that someone else does the tech support on. My biggest complaint is having to constantly bounce between HP and Tmobile on issues. The previous hybrid was put out by Tmobile and they bent over backwards anytime I had issues. So I’m extremely happy Tmobile decided to slap their name on this one as well.

Oh and lest I forget, let me share my delight in the news that TV remotes have come a long way. I bought a new all in one remote from Radio Shack yesterday on a whim.

remote control from Hell!
This bad boy not only controls my TV/DVD/Stereo, it also controls my Tivo and my Cable box. You used to never be able to do that. Who knew? *giggle* I’m in heaven now. One simple remote for every freaking piece of electronics in my entertainment center. All for the bargain price of $20.00 bucks!

Yeah, I’m a geek, whatcha gonna do about it!?

Blog Updates

I’m tinkering w/adding a “new post notification” plug-in to the blog. This would allow people to sign up for email notifications of a new post on the blog or even receive the entire post by email.

While I am by no means popular in terms of heavy-weight bloggers, I am considering it as not everyone likes to load each and every blog page like I do. Many folks like to use notifications to save them the trouble of clicking each and every blog on their list to see if it has been updated recently.

So, I’m taking comments on how many people are interested in seeing such a feature here. Basically, you’d sign up w/your email address. Everytime I posted to the blog you would receive an email notification or an email of the post.

What say you all?
