Off and Running

Well, I’m definitely on the mend.  I had lunch w/roblog the other day and I don’t think I closed my trap once the whole time. lol  I’ve been so cooped up lately, I think I was a little stir-crazy.  Poor Rob, he was a trooper though.  He listened attentively and managed to get in a few words between my short breaks to inhale.

The clan survived the hurricane.  My younger brother was up in Topeka visiting my oldest brother so he missed the storm.  Apparently, his trailer came thru the storm ok but his back porch is missing.  My Mawmaw had a trailer parked on the land that wasn’t so lucky. [1]She doesn’t live in it, it was just there.  Not one but two trees fell on it and it is completely demolished.

My other brother has been out to the land and he says there are more trees down than he has ever seen.  Even as far inland as they were the wind was still pretty fierce.  I can’t do anything from here obviously but I’ve canceled my trip home next week since no one is actually there.  Ok, that isn’t exactly true.  I’m still going to Houston.

Speaking of travel, I discovered the plate in my shoulder will set off metal detectors.  This means I have to get a declaration card from my doctor.  Even still, I’m a bit leery of traveling.  I’m American born but having heard and read some of the horror stories surrounding the TSA, I am not looking forward to it.  I’m hoping my karma will hold true and I’ll make it ok.

In completely unrelated news, I bought this 915 [2]homeless person some food at Taco Bell tonight.  He kept arguing w/the clerk over the price.  I finally said, “what do you care, I’m buying, what do you want?”  He looked at me a little confused for a moment.  I think he was slightly inebriated and had forgotten I was paying.  Bless his heart.

  1. Wow, it’s good to hear that everyone made it through the storm okay, too bad about the damage. Good thing no one has been left without a roof over their head though

Getting through airport security should be fun for you, I’ve heard some nasty stories about the TSA so I hope it all goes well for you!

  2. Sweetie, you never close your trap. That’s why we are perfect together. You should hear Chuck F. and I at lunch! * crickets chirping * 🙂

Sorry I had to run afterward though…

  3. Sorry to hear that Ike was less than kind to the folks… I have heard from everyone but one friend in Houston and my brother in Conroe… brother is probably just busy with phone repairs – these storms always swamp him with work.
Hope the trip to “H” goes smoothly… take a few picks – be interesting ot see an unbiased picture. Some of the media picture of Galveston are depressing…makes the whole place look like it was almost leveled. We are going to Freeport area tomorrow to check on the house down there… the road just got cleared and opened yesterday. Taking the truck since don’t know what to expect since the area is rural and sparsely populated with ‘full-time’ people…fingers crossed.

    sidenote…
Had to read the 915 story twice, I thought the Taco Bell Clerk was arguing with you …doh! Oh well it was a good thing you did. Last year as I was gassing up, a guy came up to me and asked for money. Told him I didn’t carry cash, but I buy him a burger at DQ. He feel asleep outside while I stood in line getting the order – had to smile, thought poor guy.

  4. You are going to Houston next week? When? I was contemplating going to Houston for the weekend to play some tennis from Sept. 26-28th. But I have to make sure electricity will be running better than it is.

@Brettcajun ~ I had planned to but looking at my finances now, I may have to cancel. With the accident, the new bike, etc, I’m not sure it is wise. I’m still contemplating.

  5. My Mom has a plate and some screws in her left ankle so she has the doctor’s note for the metal detectors. Just stay away from large, industrial magnets.

  6. LOL: Please don’t take this the wrong way, BUT, you are one of the most talkative people I have ever met. And that’s not a bad thing, at least we always know what you’re thinking (we just can’t ever tell you what we are thinking…JUST KIDDING!)

@Jeff ~ I have no idea what you mean? lol

  7. That’s nice of the homeless guy to try to save you money.

I talk a lot also guy. I am always told if I shut up for longer than 5 minutes that’s i’d blow a fuse.
