I deleted over 100 user accounts from my blog today. Most were sp*mmers. On the odd chance I deleted a legitimate account in error, you can just re-register. I only block IP’s for known baddies. This is becoming a chore so if things continue on this vein, I’ll have to remove the 3rd-party log-in plugin. I had to adjust the security controls in wordpress for it work properly and now I’m getting a weekly hit of fake accounts.
I’m also taking suggestions/recommendations for a new sp*m blocker plug-in. My beloved SK2 is no longer supported. Its held up for over a year of newer and newer versions of WP with no problems but lately, cracks are showing. The WP code is changing so much I think its time to move on. I have akismet loaded but no running. I’ve read good reviews but I’d love to find another plug-in as good or better than SK2. Suggestions?
I'd give Akismet another try to get running. It's fantastic. My current Akismet stats: 9,225 spams caught, 310 legitimate comments, and an overall accuracy rate of 99.864%.
I've had to green-light a couple posts it thought was spam, and I've had to spam a few it didn't catch. But it's generally just killing it.
I use Akismet v 2.5.1 and Bad Behavior v 2.0.39. Seems to keep the naughty bits at bay!
I'm using Akismet 2.5.1 also, with no problems or errors.
I also use Akismet and it works great. For logging into the website I use Google Friend connect. I like it a lot since you don't have to log in with special credentials and if you are friends with that person you can see what other websites they have connected too.
I too am a lover of SK2…in fact either you turned me on to it, or I turned you on to it. I can't remember. All I remember is you turn me on. 😉 Anyway, I use Akismet now, too, along with SPamKarma. It does pretty well. Something gets through every once in a while. But not too bad.
