Real?

So in very uninteresting and completely mundane news, I joined realjock.com last week. I thought it might be fun to try and interact with other guys who enjoy working out.

So far, I’m not that impressed. Besides being an obvious hang out for those dealing with internalized homophobia and the ever emotionally stunted “straight acting” types, no one really seems to actually interact that much.

The site is designed relatively well and does have some good tips/guides for working out and building muscle though. The forum is decent as well. I guess its the best to be expected considering. I’ll give it a whirl for awhile and see what develops.

  1. Everything about the site is really awesome, except the guys. They are all a bunch of jock wanna-bes. If you could combine the guys of BigMuscle with the RealJock site, that would be a truly amazing site.

@Chris ~ well not all bad. DocMarvy and Hobronto are both on there, both upstanding guys in my book. *g*

  2. Yeah, I had pretty much left after things turned ugly on the forums a while ago (a little less than a year to my recollection). Once upon a time RJ was a pretty cool place where there was genuine interaction of guys in all stages of fitness looking for workouts, tips, camaraderie, etc. Then things took a notably sour turn and it basically became a place where twinks and a few really huge guys who as you said were either dealing with their internalized homophobia or were just jerks stomped all over the boards. I hit the wall with it when one particular twink asserted that "all fat people are lazy." That turned pretty ugly, as you can imagine and the easy-going vibe of the forums kind of dissolved.

Sad, really. Thankfully we met a lot of cool people on there before things went south, and there's always hope that things will regulate. We'll see. I pop in once in a while just to see what's up. The tone seems to be pretty benign, no doubt a result of many being turned off by the negativity on the boards.

@Marv ~ well "pop in" more often.

  3. I'm not a real jock – so I couldn't join because I'd be misrepresenting myself.

and that is just not allowed on the internets.

@Blobby ~ I don't really consider myself a "Jock" either. However, I do like finding health/fitness minded guys.
