Reality Bites

Thanks for all those who shared on their flaws. I’m working on a description of my shortcomings however, I haven’t finished it yet so on to other less tantilizing posts…

I’m continuously intrigued w/America’s fascination w/reality shows. I guess there is some appeal to seeing every day folks on the “tele”. However, I’m disturbed at how often these every day folks are ridiculed, deuced, or downright made fun of all in the name of ratings. I think there is something fundamentally wrong w/that. It’s as if hollywood has discovered the success of the Jerry Springer show and is now thinks humiliation = ratings. I feel it is a sad day in hour history when that’s what our primetime line up consists of.

For all my bitchin’ there have been a few shows, I connected with. Extreme Makever, Home Edition comes to mind right away. Granted, it is riddled w/free consumer product plugs but at the end of the day, the show changes peoples lives for the better. Several episodes were so touching, I found myself bawling like a baby by the end. I think it’s still on the air and if you’ve never seen it, it’s worth a watch. If you are a big softy like me, bring your kleenexes cause you’ll need’em.

I’m not saying all TV shows should have some meaningful purpose. Being an avid scifi/horror junkie, how could I? What I am saying is if we reduce ourselves to the level of high school kids making fun of others as a form of entertainment, we really don’t deserve to be top of the food chain.

I’m sure many disagree but that’s my take on it. Much in the same way I refuse to watch movies or tv shows that show graphic depiction of torture or murders. Saw, Hostel, etc. I refuse to watch such shows as 1) it could really happen 2) it gives the really sick fuckers out there ideas. No, I’ll stick to my scifi/horror flicks. While filled w/blood and gore as a prerequisite, after it’s all over, I know it’s fake. A small distinction but an important one in my view.

TGIF III

Happy Friday all.

My week is winding down. I still have to work tomorrow but no meetings, no overtime, just my normal shift. Work has pretty much consumed my life for the last two weeks. It’s all w/reason so I’m not bitching. I’m just looking forward to my weekend.

Thanks to all who added their RSS feeds in the previous post. I’m still deciding on which feed reader to use for my PDA.

On a side note, I was having a conversation w/a buddy who was going on and on about his ex boyfriends character flaws. Funny, as my friend is a mess himself. I asked him what he thought his character flaws were and he couldn’t tell me.

What do you think your worst character flaw is? I think a big one for me is procrastination.

The Buzz Continues…

I thought my week of meetings was behind me. No such luck. Mwah. My day started at 7:00am today. I did have a few breaks in between but not enough to go home or do anything fun. *sigh*

I bitch but it is all for a good cause. I have been bitching for so long about the deplorable state our comm center is in. Now, I have a chance to be directly involved in a lot of decisions that are normally made w/o any consideration for the end user. The drama and lost time is worth it.

I have a doctor appointment on Thursday to go over the results of my MRI and allergon test. The singulair seemed to help at first but now I’m not so sure. I’m really over the constant sniffing at times. (The ionizer’s for work arrive mid September and my new one for home arrives in a week.)

I’m doing my best to catch up on your blogs. Don’t be surprised if you get a blog-by from me soon!

Missing Blogger

So Glennalicious is in town. He was supposed to meet me at the Eagle today but he was a no-show. I guess I don’t rate very high on his importance list. *sniffle, whine, cry* Mwahhhhh!

I managed to carry on though. My buddy Garrett met me. We hung out catching up and making fun of the food. It was good to get out and see people. I’ve been so frakin busy w/work. I could have just stood there all by myself and been completely happy.

Back At It

I’m back! Did you miss me? I did.

This past week was busy as hell. My ride along was good. The funny thing was every time we staged somewhere we got a call right there. I am gaining more and more experience. I’m actually starting to feel like an EMT in skill as well as title. I also got a good lead on getting some ER time in. I need time in an ER to be a serious consideration for a position w/the city. Well, if there ever start hiring that is. I’m a scratch this week as my crew is on vacation. Maybe I can get some gym time in.

Things are very interesting at work. We have a new director and she has made some really good impressions so far. She definitely seems labor friendly and has already shaken things up a bit. Dare I hope things might actually improve? Only time will tell I guess. I had meetings from hell this past week. Labor-management, Union, IDT, training, yadda yadda yadda. I’m glad it’s over. A few more this week but nowhere near as long.

I’m drawing a blank on some of the things I wanted to talk about. I had a ton of things I wanted to blog about and now they are MIA. I’m sure they’ll come to me, I always have something to say.

Cancel my 4:00…

OY! Meetings from hell this week. Meet this, meet that. I am wearing too many frickin’ hats!

Anyway, lots of stuff to share when I get a breath. Great ride along this week, funny happenings, updates on my nose problem, blah blah blah.

Of course, I’m in a meeting right now. I’m sneaking a quick post in on my break.

Hope all are well.

Extra Flakey

Does it piss you off when people flake on you? Especially, at the last minute.

I was scheduled to hang out w/a group of buddies from my EMT class tonight. Three to be precise. And all three flaked out. Now Brandon had a good excuse, he worked a full 10 hour day and was worn out. After he heard the other two flaked, I offered to just cancel and do it another time. He accepted. I don’t blame him however, the other two don’t have such a good excuse. Even worse, the girl who put all this together text’d me her cancellation. She couldn’t even CALL. People just don’t value their word anymore these days. It’s like “yeah, I’ll hang out with you until I’m distracted by something else.” I’m not angry per say, just annoyed. I was looking forward to seeing them all day and booked my plans around the get together.

Now, I’m all dressed up and no one to blow nowhere to go. *sigh*

Funny III

I almost forgot, on my way home this rather attractive drunk guy stumbled up to me at a stop light and asked ‘hey man, can I get a ride on your bike?’. My first thought was to just drive away. Then I had another. I said “I tell ya what, if you can get on the back w/o falling off, I’ll give you a ride.

I’ll share w/you how funny it was watching his drunk ass trying to get on the back of my bike. He finally gave up and said “screw it, I’ll walk.” He was cute but way too drunk for my tastes.

I’m such a stinker.

To Meet or Not To Meet

Today was meetings from hell. Productive meetings but OMG were they long. My first started at 9:00am. Yes, you guessed it, very early for me. I usually roll out of bed around 10/10:30 since I work the swing shift. A one hour meeting meant to sort of introduce our local union officers to the new director turned into 4 hours. All productive but much much longer than anticipated. Of course, this ruined any chances of getting to my chiropractor appointment. I called and delayed it and then finally had to cancel. As soon as one meeting ended, I was due in a Phase 4 meeting involving classroom training for dispatchers not yet trained on the new dynamic deployment for the fire department. I didn’t really need to be there as I already instruct the classes in question but it was a good refresher. I’m loathe to admit I did learn a few things. I finished just in time to start my regular shift. Being Friday, of course it was busy as hell. I ended the night w/not one but two 187’s (homicides).

This is one day, I’m glad to see come to an end. I’m at home now with my feet propped up catching upon Tivo.
