Halloween From Hell

If you haven’t heard by now, there was several shootings at the Halloween event in the Castro last night. Today, the story is making nice soundbites across the blogosphere. If you read this blog on a regular basis you know where my insight comes from.

“Halloween in the Castro” used to be a really fantastic slice of San Francisco attended primarily by the neighborhood’s local gay/lesbian community. Over recent years the event has become a spectator event with 80% of current attendees from out of town. Since 2002, much violence has resulted, ruining this once-special event.

While I am a huge fan of Halloween, I hope they cancel the event next year. I hope they increase the police presence and flat out turn people away. Call me a party-pooper but at least folks won’t get hurt for just trying to have some good old fashioned fun. The event is no longer about the neighborhood getting together for a night of innocent revelling. Instead, it’s a bunch of condescending outsiders looking for an excuse to cause mayhem. Well, here’s your sign. We don’t want you. If you can’t behave like a civilized human being, stay your ass at home and cause grief in your own neighborhoods.

Two wrongs don’t make a right but I can’t help it. My grandmother was a big believer in an “eye for an eye”. I don’t condone violence however, it’s times like these that make me doubt that conviction. Sometimes a good ass-whoopin’ is the only way to get thru to a pig-headed fool.

Quick, Fast, & In a Hurry!

I made it in and out of the dmv today in less than 30 minutes! And, that’s including the time I spent running outside to take the plate off the bike. Confused? Don’t be. I bought a personalized plate for the bike and it finally arrived1. I didn’t like the one I had on the scooter so I switched.

What do you think? Does it suit me?

Speaking of, did I mention I sold the scooter back to the dealer? They gave me a fair price for it so no complaints there.

I also got the replacement phone/pda today too. Thanks be! I was going freakin’ nuts w/o it. I really am dependent on my gadgets. While waiting for the new one, I was given a clear idea of how much I depend on technology2. I can’t help it. However, isn’t that the point? To make ones life better? That’s a big affirmative in my book. hehehe.

I also made it to the gym again today. Three times in three days. I may actually gain back all my lost muscle before Christmas. That would be nice. I discovered my buddy, Woof Brandon, has passed me in size as well as strength now. Before I had him beat on strength. *sigh*

1 I ordered it over a month ago. They say 2-4 weeks. My ass. Try almost 2 frakin months!

2 Don’t laugh, I can check my email, surf the web, make calls, listen to music, manage my workouts, watch video, even record video on the damn thing. Hell, if I wanted to I could even use it as a garage remote.

Fiddlin’ III

Ok, I can’t stop fiddlin w/the blog. Besides the “recent comments” update, I also added a nifty little feature that tracks my comments pretty much anywhere on the web. I like it as it ties all of my online activity together on my blog.

I personally think this is a very useful plugin. Part of the blogging experience is getting to know the writer behind the blog. What better way than seeing comments elsewhere on the net. Don’t ya think?

I was a little put off by the code to install it at first. However, they have a firefox extension that works seamlessly w/the browser. They also have a predefined plugin for Wordress too. All I had to do was install both and viola! Any comment anywhere can be linked back to my blog. How frakin’ neat is that?

OH No It Dinn’t!

My pda phone died today. My baby! I was busy texting a bud from work when suddenly kaput!

No worries, Tmobile promptly scheduled my replacement to arrive by Saturday. Yes, it’s still under warranty. I haven’t a clue what happened to it. It just, like, died. *sigh*

Hot Topics

Since google’s blogs all seem to be offline at the moment, I can’t check however, I’m pretty sure Joe.my.god knows he was featured in Advocates “Best Of” guide this month. I discovered him completely by accident while getting the hooves filed down today.

There he was big as life. Congrats big fella.

Back At It

I’m back in SF. It was good to be away but it’s also good to be home. The flight back could not have gone better. It was a direct flight and just under half full. I have the whole row to myself. I spent the time watching DVD’s and playing Blackhawk Striker.

Today, I’m sitting in front of the computer waiting for the 15 billion emails to download1. Speaking of computers, the new spam filter I installed on the blog is working quite well. Large Tony recommended it, Spam Karma 2, and I’ve been very pleased with it overall.

I have a ton of errands to do today. None of which will actually get done. The maids are also coming so I at least have to run out and get some cash for them2.

So I’m asking myself, “was the trip worth it?” My answer. Most definitely yes. I had a great time and it was very relaxing. I needed the time away and the trip served its purpose. I didn’t think of work more than once. I did go over budget but not by much. This means I get to eat more than raman noodles for the next two weeks. heheee.

Sadly, this is the last trip of the year. It’s back to reality and putting my nose to the grindstone. However, I made mention before the trip I was cutting back on some stuff. I’m looking forward to having a little more free time on my hands.

1 I almost never use the computer at home these days. The laptop is newer and faster. However, I have to run it every so often to clean off the email servers.

2 I ran out of checks two weeks ago. I’ll add ordering new ones to the list of things that won’t get done today.

Medium Rare or Well Done?

Well, the trip is slowly winding down. I had a really good time. I was actually a little worried I’d be bored as I didn’t plan anything this trip. I usually try to squeeze in one or two touristy things while I’m here. I didn’t plan anything in advance this time.

Saturday after the beach, I went bar hopping w/a gang of guys I met at the resort where I was staying. Someone commented about where I was staying. I stay at the Grand Resort every time I visit FTL. They recently added a spa which they push really hard now.

I’m digressing… We started off at Bill’s. Kinda like the Edge in SF. Good crowd and very friendly muscle bears. Grrrrrr! Then it was over to Ramrod (leather/levi/sleaze bar) and lastly George’s Alibi. George’s is by far my favorite bar in FTL. Diverse crowds, good musice/videos, pool, and hot bartendars. I always have a good time there. Afterwards, I ran over to Granny’s (aka the baths) to say hello. Granny was very happy to see me1! Oy was I tired when I got home.

Yesterday, I drove down to South Beach, Miami for the day. One of the guys from the resort tagged along and was good company. En route we had a little snafu, I ended up taking the wrong exit ramp. Not being afraid to stop and ask directions, this little detour only added 20 minutes to the drive. However, I can now say, I’ve been to Pinecrest, Florida. hehehe.
